Station Amsterdam Centraal

Dutch architect Petrus Josephus Hurbertus took up the challenge of designing a new railway station on Amsterdam’s waterfront and it was completed in 1889. Amsterdam Centraal was the city’s biggest engineering project of the 19th century. The building sits on top of three artificial islands supported by 8,687 wooden poles. The station is now coming to the end of a major renovation project.

Daily passenger numbers are steadily increasing and are soon expected to reach 300,000. #amsterdam #train #station #centraal #Renaissance #neogothic #architecture #travel #holland #netherlands #ns
